Notre Dame running back Tony Jones Jr. will remember this hit for a while.
In the middle of Notre Dame's game against Miami (OH), Jones took a brutal helmet-to-helmet shot from Redhawks defensive back Daryus Thompson that literally caused Jones' helmet to "explode" as dozens of golden shards of paint flew into the air from the hit.
The golden flakes littered the ground as trainers had to tend to Jones Jr. after the hit. He was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power.
The officials did initiate a review for targeting on this play, but actually waived it off as they seemed to rule that both Jones Jr. and Thompson were lowering their helmets to reasonable expectations during the hit.
