One of the final four-stars of the 2018 class makes a stunning commitment

Only a small number of four-star prospects remain unsigned in the college football recruiting class of 2018 and, in some ways, that makes a ton of sense given the point in the calendar. After all, National Signing Day is in the rear view mirror and, by proxy, the vast majority of future college football standouts

After all, National Signing Day is in the rear view mirror and, by proxy, the vast majority of future college football standouts already have their plans made.

Still, Tyrone Sampson had not made a pledge until Friday, when he reportedly made the stunning choice to attend Fresno State for the next few years.

Congrats to Tyrone Sampson Jr on his commitment to Fresno State University!!!

Sampson, who stands at 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds from Detroit, was truly an enigma on the recruiting trail, with no firm assumption as to where he would end up at the end of the process. For several months, the talented offensive lineman was pledged to attend Syracuse but he decommitted from the Orange back in December and, since then, it is apparent that Jeff Tedford and the Bulldogs were working hard to secure his commitment.

Because Sampson is an offensive lineman and Fresno State does not always recruit alongside the top teams in the sport, Sampson's choice may fall through the cracks from a national perspective. Still, this could be pivotal for the Bulldogs and one of the (very) few top recruits available is now off the board.
