Dobbs would later take over as the Vols' starter once again midway through his sophomore campaign and remain the team's starter for the remainder of his career.

On Friday, Dobbs will make his first start for the Steelers in their preseason game against the New York Giants.

While this doesn't mean we should expect Dobbs to compete with veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the starting job during the regular season, it does make the former Vol seem like favorite to be the Steelers' No. 2 option ahead of Landy Jones and Bart Houston.

Pittsburgh selected Dobbs in the fourth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Many experts believed the former Tennessee quarterback could have gone higher given his experience leading the Volunteers and Aerospace Engineering background, as well as having similar attributes to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who won the Rookie of the Year Award last season.

Although it's still too early to assume Dobbs will be Roethlisberger's heir after he revealed that he'll consider retirement after the upcoming season, the announcement does provide optimism of his chances in the future.
