Sydney Kumas Monster Home Run Crushed Floridas WCWS Dreams

Sydney Kuma's home run is still going. If my math is correct, it should be landing in Oklahoma City at any second. [embedded content] The University of Georgia second baseman crushed a homer against the Florida Gators that showcased her power.

The University of Georgia second baseman crushed a homer against the Florida Gators that showcased her power.

It exploded off her bat, picked up its luggage, got through security, and boarded while adding two more runs for UGA.

The Georgia softball team's sticks were scorching in Game 2 of the Gainesville Super Regional.

Jaiden Fields smashed a homer in the second. Jayda Kearney knocked one out of the park in the third.

Going into the fifth, UGA held a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Sydney Kuma stepped into the batter's box with a runner on first and nobody out.

Florida pitcher Katie Chronister served one up over the heart of the plate.

Boom. Just Boom. As soon as Kuma made contact, there wasn't a doubt in anyone's mind.

The ball launched off her bat into the stratosphere and landed past the center field wall. Her long shot is still under review for crimes against palm trees.

The two-run home run extended the Dawgs' lead to 5-0. They knocked in an insurance run later in the inning and didn't look back.

It was Kuma's 15th homer of the year, and more importantly, the shutout win secured a ticket to the Women's College World Series in OKC.

The Bulldogs bounced back after ending the regular season on a seven-game losing streak. The NCAA Tournament run started in the Athens, Ga. Regional with wins over Western Kentucky and Duke before taking down the Gators.

In the fifth WCWS appearance in program history, Georgia faces fifth-ranked Oklahoma State in the first round. OSU will surely have a home-field advantage, but Kuma's bat is the quintessential crowd silencer.
