If Lane Kiffin does indeed leave Alabama, the perfect job could be waiting for him.
According to Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com, Kiffin is near the top of Oregon's list to replace Mark Helfrich as the head football coach. Helfrich was relieved of his duties on Tuesday evening.
Two other candidates sources told FootballScoop Oregon has discussed will face each other in Saturday's SEC Championship: Lane Kiffin and Jim McElwain.
Like [Lincoln] Riley, Kiffin is a young, smart offensive innovator. Kiffin has head coaching experience, and the last three years under Nick Saban have served as, in the words of how Tom Herman described a similar apprenticeship under Urban Meyer, "head coaching school."
Kiffin has been in rumors for several jobs, including the LSU offensive coordinator position. However, if Kiffin is seeking to get back into the head coaching game, the Oregon position could be a perfect spot for him. After a 4-8 season this year, he will likely have a couple of seasons of patience to help rebuild the program.
Considering that Oregon has Nike co-founder Phil Knight to rely on, the Oregon job could represent quite the payday for Kiffin, too.
Of course, Kiffin may take a while to make a decision, as he and the Crimson Tide are preparing for the SEC title game against Florida.
