Musburger, who started his career in 1973 with CBS doing play-by-play, will call his last game for ESPN on January 31, a college basketball contest between Kentucky and Georgia.

After his time at CBS, where he covered anything from football to basketball and even tennis, horse racing and The Masters, Musburger left for ESPN/ABC.

At ESPN, Musburger became a staple to their college football coverage. ESPN hadn't treated Musburger like the legend he is in recent years and it seems the icon knew it was time to step away.

The move reportedly is not motivated by his Sugar Bowl comments on the Joe Mixon controversy.
