The 2016 season has been rough for Jim Mora and the UCLA Bruins and things just got uglier. The Bruins will now be without starting quarterback Josh Rosen for an indefinite period of time, as Mora announced on Monday that the true sophomore signal-caller has a nerve problem in his throwing shoulder.
Mora's announcement came as part of his weekly press conference and he went further in-depth about the problem:
"The nerve has to start firing again. Once it starts firing again, he should be fine. It's just a matter of when is it going to start firing again? He's getting all the treatment he can get. He's doing everything he can do. Our doctors are as good as they get. He's got a dad at home who's a doctor, so he's surrounded by good people. It's just a matter of his arm starting to fire. He's been trying to throw, and it just hasn't gotten to the point where he can cut it loose yet."
UCLA sits with a 3-5 record on the heels of three consecutive losses and Rosen has missed the last two games (Washington State and Utah) as a result of the ailment. While the team has not enjoyed success this season, Rosen has been quite productive, producing 1,915 passing yards and ten touchdowns in the six starts he was able to make. With that, the Bruins experience a drop-off to backup Mike Fafaul, even as he has been productive over the last two weeks.
It appears to simply be a lost season for UCLA but, beyond that, there is at least some hope that Rosen can regain his full strength and ability in the near future.
