Edgerrin James is on the short list of best running backs in NFL history. The now 38-year-old retired after the 2009 season, but prior to that, James racked up more than 12,000 yards and four All-Pro selections during a lengthy and productive career. Before arriving in the professional ranks, though, James was a standout for the Miami Hurricanes at the college level and his legacy remains when it comes to the program in Coral Gables.

With that in mind, his nephew, Jeff James, was on campus as a three-star defensive back recruit in 2016 and he appeared in one game last season. On Monday, however, word broke via an official release that James will be transferring and "is no longer a member of the football program" at Miami.

Head coach Mark Richt said the following:

"I talked to Jeff and we both felt it was in his best interests to get a fresh start somewhere else. We wish him all the best in his future plans."

James' next destination is not known at this point but, given his relatively limited prospect status as a high school player, it might be safe to assume that he will move down from a Power 5 institution for his next stop. Miami is, of course, loaded with the talent so the impact should be minimal but James is no longer on the squad and that is noteworthy.
