Bob Elliott was one of the most beloved assistant coaches in college football and was one of the most experienced as well having coached for 38 years. Unfortunately, Elliott passed away at age 64 after dealing with a rare form of cancer since 1998 called Polycythemia vera, which is a bone marrow disorder.

Elliott had coaching stops seemingly all over the place. He started as a graduate assistant at Iowa in 1976 after playing there from 1972 to 1975. He would then find himself at Kent State, Ball State, Iowa State, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas State, San Diego State, Notre Dame and most recently Nebraska. He was hired as the safeties coach there earlier in the year, but had to resign in June because of his health.
Elliott's specialty was defensive back, which is the position he played in college and a group of people he had coached for 32 years afterward. One of his best units was Notre Dame in 2012 when they finished the season ranked second in yards per completion, sixth in fewest touchdowns allowed and 13th in yards per attempt.
