Denver Broncos strength and conditioning coach Luke Richesson will reportedly take a "significant" job with the Houston Texans, according to Mike Klis of 9News.
Richesson had one year remaining on his contract with the Broncos and has been with the franchise since 2012, which has outlasted three coaching regimes, as well as the team's 2015 Super Bowl championship season. According to Klis' report, the coach is credited with having "modernized the weight room, training and movement techniques for the elite athlete."
"I loved being a Bronco," Richesson said, via 9News. "It was so rewarding working with the players. Going to two Super Bowls and winning the world championship, that's what we work for. But the Texans gave me an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
Denver is expected to first consider in-house candidates to replace Richesson, including Anthony Lomando, Mike Eubanks and Cedric Smith as potential options. Klis also reported that former Denver assistant strength coach Jason George could also be considered as a successor.
What makes the move particularly interesting is that Denver is allowing it despite Houston having blocked its previous request to interview Wes Welker for its since-filled wide receivers coach vacancy.
The Broncos have seen plenty of turnover this offseason, with head coach Vance Joseph hiring new assistants at the quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive line and defensive back positions, as well as new special teams coordinator Tom McMahon.
