Sumlin was fired a week ago by Texas A&M after a 7-5 campaign this year, which wasn't enough to save his job as those in College Station had grown tired of the program's lack of growth after an 11-2 season in his first year. While he did underwhelm, Sumlin still led a decent program while at A&M, and he amassed a 51-26 record in six season.

Tennessee is still looking for a new coach after firing Butch Jones several weeks ago. The Vols have publicly cycled through candidates so far, with the whole Greg Schiano debacle sparking off a panic in Knoxville. In addition to Doeren, Tennessee has also reportedly been turned down by Duke coach David Cutcliffe and Purdue coach Jeff Brohm.
