Kentucky linebacker Jason Hatcher was dismissed from the football team on Monday morning for a violation of team rules after he was arrested for marijuana trafficking early Monday morning. Per the Courier-Journal, Hatcher is still listed as an inmate on the Franklin County Jail's website. Per the jail's site, Hatcher's chargers include speeding 11 mph over the speed limit, trafficking in marijuana (eight ounces to less than five pounds), tampering with physical evidence and buy/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hatcher was formally dismissed from the team just before noon on Monday, and a UK spokesperson declined to comment further on the situation.
After Hatcher was pulled over, the officer reported smelling marijuana in the car, Franklin Country Sheriff Pat Melton told the Courier-Journal. As the officer prepared to search Hatcher's vehicle, he spotted him using his cell phone light to look through his own vehicle. The officer then found a quarter pound of marijuana that Hatcher stuffed down his pants, and another three quarters of a pound of marijuana in the passenger floor board in a vacuum-sealed bag, according to Melton.
Hatcher was suspended for the first two games of the 2015 season for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He registered 39 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in nine games for Kentucky during the 2014 season.
