It is always interesting to gauge the college football coaching game, especially with concern to which jobs are seen as "parallel" to others. One such instance appeared on Wednesday, as Louisiana-Lafayette defensive coordinator Karl Scott is reportedly set to change positions.
While that wouldn't be strange on its surface, Scott has been in place at the school for only one month, as he was hired by Billy Napier following a successful stint as the defensive backs coach at Texas Tech. FootballScoop first reported that Scott will be headed to Alabama to take over the same position group and BamaOnline is now confirming reports to that end with the caveat that it is "unclear on when an official announcement will be made."
The difference between being a defensive at a Group of 5 program and a position coach at a blue blood like Alabama could be negligible but, clearly, Scott believes this is an uptick. That is the nature of a move like this one after just a few weeks on the job and Nick Saban needed to fill the role after losing incumbent Derrick Ansley to a job with the Oakland Raiders.
It remains to be seen as to when this will become official but Scott is taking a "demotion" in title for a promotion in terms of a high-profile position.
