After decommitting from Penn State in June, No. 1 overall recruit and five-star quarterback Justin Fields is taking his time making up his mind. Fields admitted to 247sports that he'll likely make his decision during the season, and acknowledged the five teams in the running for his recruitment.
"Fields, who de-committed from Penn State in June, today is focused primarily on Auburn, Florida State and Georgia, but said Friday he also communicates with Alabama and Texas."
Alabama has remained the darkhorse in the process, but Tom Herman's Texas program could be coming on strong.
Back in mid-June, Fields didn't even list Texas as part of the seven schools he was considering. In that month and a half or so, he's dropped North Carolina, Ole Miss and Florida.
In late July, Fields acknowledged Florida State, Auburn and Georgia have stood out as "key schools" in his recruitment.
The 6'3?, 221-pound QB is the top dual-threat QB in the country as well as the top recruit overall according to 247Sports' own rankings. He's got over 40 offers including some from Penn State — where he originally committed — Alabama, LSU, Nebraska and Tennessee among many others.
