Johnny Manziel officially announces his return to the football field

Johnny Manziel, who is attempting a comeback in football, will begin that journey in The Spring League. Back in Texas where it all started. I'll be joining @TheSpringLeague in Austin to get #ComebackSZN started! Can't wait to get back on the field and show NFL scouts what I can do! #cantwaitforspring pic.twitter.com/zMk5223HCc

For those unaware of what that is, from The Spring League's official Twitter:

An elite developmental league & scouting event for professional football talent. The 2018 season begins March 28th in Austin, TX!

Manziel, who was recently signed by the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, went on Good Morning America earlier in the week to talk about his abuse of substances and how he's been diagnosed as bipolar.

"I was self-medicating with alcohol because I thought that's what was making me happy and help me get out of this depression to a point where I thought I had some sense of happiness," Manziel said via SEC Country. "But at the end of the day when you wake up the next day after a night like that, or after going on a trip like that, and that's all gone? That liquid courage or that liquid sense of euphoria that's over you is all gone.

"You're left staring at the ceiling by yourself and you're back in that depression and back in that hole, that dark hole sitting in a room by yourself thinking about all the mistakes you've made in your life. What did that get me? Where did that get me except out of the NFL? Where did that get me? Disgrace?"

Here is to hoping the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback is both OK mentally and can get back to where he wants to be professionally. The Spring League, while not the NFL, is as good a place to start as any.
