Cauthen was also considering Georgia and Clemson, with 247Sports touting the Tigers as the initial favorite. However, North Carolina's No. 4 recruit decided to stay in state and will give the Tar Heels a nice boost in a few years.
This commitment is the latest in a series of wins for North Carolina. After getting to the ACC Championship Game this season, the Tar Heels managed to re-sign head coach Larry Fedora to a seven-year extension. Cauthen becomes North Carolina's third commit of the 2017 class, with all three being rated as four-stars by 247Sports.
