Former Tennessee quarterback Riley Ferguson transferred out of Knoxville back in 2014 after his redshirt freshman year. He never quite felt comfortable there and had originally been recruited by Derek Dooley and his staff. He ended up at a JUCO school in Kansas where he got the attention of Memphis coaches and they let him compete for their starting QB job this summer.
He impressed Tigers head coach Mike Norvell enough to get the starting job and it seems like his long road from Tennessee has paid off.

The former Elite 11 finalist threw for 2,942 yards and 35 touchdowns on 225 of 332 passing Coffeyville Community College. He ranked as the No. 23 pro-style quarterback and No. 435 overall prospect after throwing for 2,173 yards and 25 touchdowns in nine games as a high school senior. He couldn't quite beat out Josh Dobbs who was signed in the same class and the jobs has been Dobbs' ever since he took over in October 2014.
