The NBA world lost a legend on Friday night as former Phoenix Suns and ABL great Connie Hawkins passed away. The cause of death is unknown, but it was confirmed by the Suns with his family.

Hawkins played seven seasons in the NBA, including four All-Star seasons with the Suns from 1969 to 1973. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. Before joining the NBA, Hawkins played two seasons in the ABA, winning the league title and MVP honors with the Pittsburgh Pipers in 1967-68. Hawkins also played four seasons with the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1960s.
The 6-foot-8 Hawkins has been described as "Dr. J before there was a Dr. J" and was fun and phenomenal to watch. He was inducted into the Naismisth Hall of Fame in 1992 and became the first Suns player in the Hall of Fame.
