Butch Jones is already spouting off crazy quotes after National Signing Day

Coaches love their clichs and nobody loves them more than Tennessee's Butch Jones. He's the genius behind Champions of Life and Brick by Brick but he can never get out of his own way as he just keeps repeating them at every press conference as if it somehow takes on a different meaning each time.

Coaches love their clichés and nobody loves them more than Tennessee's Butch Jones. Well, they don't and now Jones has given us another one in the wake of a nation-leading number of decommitments throughout the recruiting process. He also signed an insane 20 recruits who were ranked as three-star recruits by ESPN while bringing in a five-star recruit in offensive tackle Trey Smith. He also brought in 6 four-star recruits. But that didn't stop people from talking about a lack of firepower in the class.

The way he decided to explain away the massive amount of three-star recruits was that he doesn't look for five-star recruits on paper or by what some recruiting service says. While at an annual recruiting celebration at the Tennessee Titans' Nissan Stadium on Thursday afternoon, Jones handed out this excuse:

"We've spoken about the competitive nature, and I think that's really, really big in today's world," Jones said. Everyone gets into the whole two-star, three-star, four-star, five-star thing. The only five-star that we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart.

"We want five-star hearts and five-star competitors."

Is someone just feeding him these cheesy lines or does he actually come up with these on his own? You can compete as hard as you want, but if the talent isn't there then it's pretty hard to rationalize why he should be getting a scholarship to a team that's supposed to be compete for the SEC East title year in and year out.
