Gerad Parker has encountered a bizarre offseason. Parker was named the interim head coach for Purdue over the final six games of the 2016 and, after guiding the Boilermakers to an unsightly 0-6 record, he was let go from the staff when the regime change featuring Jeff Brohm as the head coach took place. At that point, Parker had a (very) short stint on the staff for the Cincinnati Bearcats but, on Tuesday morning, his offseason hit a more serious and ugly turn.

The Lafayette Journal and Courier brings word that Parker was arrested "on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more" and he was booked and processed by the West Lafayette Police Department. From there, Parker took to Twitter to explain the situation in a now-deleted statement (via Sam Cooper of Yahoo):

"Monday night my wife and I took former coworkers and friends to a great meal and fellowship. Without affecting the legal process I will say that I thought I was under the legal limit to drive at 11:30 p.m. on my way home."

That is the type of statement that most legal counsel would advise against making and, with that, it makes sense that it was removed. Still, anything with regard to drinking and driving is a bad look and ESPN reports that Parker was close to being added to the staff as the wide receivers coach at East Carolina.

At this point, his next step remains up in the air and this should be considered a developing situation for Gerad Parker.
