Thank you to Coach Swinney, the Clemson staff and the best fans in college football for an incredible two years. The memories and relationships I have built with my teammates will be truly unforgettable. I will miss playing in orange and purple. However, after much prayer and talking with my family, I have decided to transfer from Clemson University. This is no reflection on the Clemson family but rather a direct reflection of my drive to lead, play and compete. Orange and purple will always be in my heart.

Cooper was one of the backups to starter Kelly Bryant in the 2017 season, but with Bryant returning next year and No. 1 overall recruit Trevor Lawrence coming in, the writing was on the wall that opportunities for Cooper would be drying up. Based on the joint statement here from Cooper and Clemson football, it looks like there is no animosity from either side.

Cooper is a former four-star recruit of the 2016 class. He originally had offers from schools like Miami and Ohio State before he committed to Clemson.

Cooper will have two years of eligibility remaining if he transfers to another FBS program.
