In the Dallas Cowboys third preseason game Thursday night, quarterback Tony Romo went down with what appeared to be a back injury.

After a fantastic block by rookie Ezekiel Elliott, Romo attempted to scramble for the first down and got folded up before exiting the game. Romo was just three plays into his second appearance of the preseason.

Tony Romo just took his helmet off on sideline and put a cap on and took a seat on bench. Probably done for the night.

Tony Romo now standing on sideline, so not taking him into locker room. That's a positive sign.

In 2013, Romo suffered a season-ending herniated disk. In 2014, he fractured his back.
It seems like Romo is fine for now, but the Cowboys are certainly lucky to have electric rookie Dak Prescott as a reserve. We'll continue to update Romo's status moving forward.
According to ESPN, Romo wanted to go back into the game, but the coaches made a decision to hold him out. He's unlikely to play again until the season-opener.
