According to a post from the Daily Beast, Dallas shooting suspect Micah Xavier Johnson of Mesquite, Texas identified as a "black nationalist" on his Facebook page.
"According to his Facebook profile, Johnson identified as a black nationalist. Activists at Thursday's night Black Lives Matter march, however, said that the shooter behind the deadliest day for American law enforcement since 9/11 was not part of their protest," the Daily Beast reported Friday.
The website was told by a DOD official that "Johnson served as a corporal in the Army Reserve as part of the 284th Engineering Company out of Santa Fe, New Mexico," which was deployed to Afghanistan.

Johnson died in a standoff with police after hours of negotiations. Dallas police have stated that Johnson claimed he acted alone and was not affiliated with any sort of organization. He expressed to Dallas cops that he had a vendetta against white people and white police officers.

"He was upset about Black Lives Matter, the recent police shootings, he was upset at white people. He wanted to kill white people, especially police officers," Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.

After Johnson's name was released to the media, photos of the 25 year old began circulating on social media.

It wasn't until after 12 p.m. that any of these photos were confirmed to be authentic. Earlier, Twitter users and media outlets misidentified a YouTube comedian.
Mic helped identify Johnson after discovering the Facebook page for a woman who appears to be his mother.
The page for Delphene Johnson of Mesquite, Texas, contains photos of a man who appears to match Micah Johnson's description.
An SUV registered to Ms. Johnson was recovered at the scene.
