Campbell reached the second round of the FCS playoffs the last two seasons and won his team's conference this season. He has a 33-15 record at Central Arkansas and 59-23 overall record from his three years from 1999 to 2001 at Delta State. He won a Division-II National Championship there with a no-huddle offense that broke 12 Gulf South Conference Records and six NCAA Division II records at the time.

Campbell was a graduate assistant at Auburn as well as the offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee and the offensive line coach at Mississippi State for a year. He was then the head coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College from 2004 to 2013 before taking over at Central Arkansas.
