Report: LSU head coaching job is one candidate's to lose ·

Ed Orgeron would seem to be a strong candidate for the LSU gig.

The 55-year-old interim head coach has gone 4-1 since taking over for Les Miles in late September, he has over 30 years of experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, and he's a Louisiana native who briefly played for the Tigers.

But that hasn't stopped LSU officials from casting a wide net in their search for a new chief. Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Houston's Tom Heman are just a couple of the names that have been kicked around.

Still, as Ross Dellenger of The Advocate notes, the job is Orgeron's to lose.

"We have stayed away from reporting in-depth about LSU's search for a head coach partly because this has been a slow-moving ordeal. All signs point to it being Orgeron's job to lose, but he absolutely can lose it, " Dellenger writes. "LSU representatives have reached out to several representatives of other coaches, as we've reported in the past, including Jimbo Fisher and Tom Herman."

What Orgeron has done since stepping in can't go unnoticed. He's breathed new life into a program that, for all its four and five star talent, just couldn't get off the mark under Miles. In the Tigers' first four games, they averaged 339.5 yards and 21 points per outing. Under Orgeron, those number have swollen to 456 yards and 32.6 points per.

And with Florida and Texas A&M the last two games on the schedule, it really is make or break time for Orgeron.
