"Saturday Night Live" scrapped its normal show this past weekend to do a tribute to Prince, who died Thursday. The first hour of the show entitled "Goodnight, Sweet Prince" and featured four of his classic SNL performances. That wasn't enough to fill the entire 90-minute show. so they brought out an old compilation of sketches based on "The Prince Show."

This is where things went off the rails. Shia LaBeouf came in and pretended to be Tobey Maguire —- before LaBeouf went totally crazy —- and was actually pretty decent. However, it was the parody of Prince by Fred Armisen that people didn't appreciate. Maya Rudolph played Beyonce and was Prince's "interpreter" throughout the show.

Fans were not happy.

Didn't think my contempt for Fred Armesin could increase but was wrong. Dammit SNL that was embarrassing #SNLPrince

Damn. #SNL can't even end a tribute show right. Nobody wanted to see those imitation sketches at the end. Come on 😠 #snlprince

#snlprince They really ruined what started as great tribute. These stupid skits aren't funny and actually dishonor the Great Man's memory.

It was pretty much perfect. Until the skits started. #snlprince

SNL disrespects @Prince with 'Prince show' caricatures labeled as 'love.' Pathetic insults. @jimmyfallon #snl #snlprince #prince
