There are some teams that could conceivably make it into the Playoff with a well-timed upset by someone else or even by themselves.

College football expert Paul Finebaum was on The Dan Patrick Show to talk about such things and specifically mentioned USC as a potential Playoff contender despite its three losses.

There are more than a couple things that would need to happen for the Trojans to get into the Playoff. Here are all of them in list form:

  • Colorado would have to lose to Utah
  • Michigan has to beat Ohio State this weekend
  • Michigan would then have to win the Big Ten title game
  • Oklahoma would have to lose to Oklahoma State
  • USC has to win out

If USC wins out and those other things happen, that means the Trojans would beat Washington again with this time being in the Pac 12 Championship Game. That would take care of everyone ahead of USC with a realistic shot at the Playoff, but the likelihood the playoff committee allows a three-loss team into the coveted final games of the season is incredibly low.
