NFL's first female ref gets knocked out of game after brutal sideline hit

While the replay looks like Thomas may have had her head snapped back into the turf, it appears that is not what caused any injury. ESPN reports that Thomas left the game to have her wrist checked on, but that she was eventually able to return to her duties on the sideline.

Thomas was the first — and currently the only — female ref in the NFL. She was also the first female official in major college football when she made her collegiate debut back in 2007.
