According to Bloody Elbow, via GNP1.de, five masked men invaded a German gym late Wednesday night with knives, a baton and a machete, resulting in the brutal attack of middleweight contender Abeku Afful.

A main artery and tendon was severed during the attack, where he lost a significant amount of blood and was in life-threatening condition before surgeries stabilized him. He remains in intensive care, per the report.

According to the report, Ismail C., a coach at a rival gym was arrested shortly after the attack. Awful trained at C.'s gym, but left to open his own. A female coach from C.'s gym also reportedly trains at Afful's gym, resulting in both the coach and Afful receiving threats, according to the report.
UFC is slated to hold a Fight Night on September 3 in Hamburg, where the attack took place.
