An embarrassing loss for a Minor League team occurred when a player didn't bother to touch the plate after a home run.
The Delmarva Shorebirds were down a run to the Augusta GreenJackets in the top of the ninth with a man on base. Outfielder Elier Leyva hit a home run that should have given Delmarva the lead. Augusta appealed, claiming Leyva had failed to touch home plate. It turned out they were correct.
Leyva was called out at home. The game went to extra innings and the GreenJackets won on a walkoff single in the tenth.
