Michigan reportedly steals away big time staffer from the SEC

It was interesting and under the radar news when Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines elected to part ways with strength and conditioning coach Kevin Tolbert for 2018 and beyond. After all, Tolbert had been with Harbaugh at a number of stops and there wasn't any visible reasoning behind the move from a performance standpoint.

After all, Tolbert had been with Harbaugh at a number of stops and there wasn't any visible reasoning behind the move from a performance standpoint. With that said, staffs don't always remain in place and it is clear that 2018 is a huge season for Harbaugh and his crew in Ann Arbor.

On Saturday, word broke from Bruce Feldman of FOX (via Sam Webb of Michigan Insider) that Michigan has found the replacement for Tolbert and it comes in the form of Ben Herbert.

It should be noted that Tolbert actually has been with the Wolverines through bowl practice and nothing official has been noted in terms of a staffing change. Still, this reporting seems rock solid and Michigan is adding an accomplished coach in Herbert.

He was a four-year assistant under Bret Bielema at Arkansas, following the now-fired head coach from Wisconsin to Arkansas when the staff made that move. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact an "outsider" like this can make in Ann Arbor, but clearly Harbaugh thinks enough of his work to pull the trigger on the swap.
