Johnny Estrada, who bounced around the majors for eight years but did have one stellar All-Star season, has been arrested following an incident on a baseball field, according to a report on 11-Alive TV in Atlanta.
Estrada was arrested on suspicion of battery when, during a baseball tournament, he allegedly shoved an umpire after disagreeing with a call, according to a press release from the Panama City Police department that was obtained by 11-Alive.
Estrada was coaching the HomePlate Chili Dogs during a tournament in Panama City, FL., according to the television station. However, a check of the organization's website doesn't show Estrada under its list of coaches. The Chili Dogs are based out of Peachtree City, GA., a suburb of Atlanta.
Estrada played for five teams in his eight-year career. His best year was in 2004, when, as a catcher, he was named to the All-Star team as a member of the Atlanta Braves. That year, he slashed .314/.378/.450 with 9 home runs and 76 RBI. He was also named a Silver Slugger Award winner. Coming off that stellar year, he was involved in one of the most memorable home plate collisions in recent years when Darren Erstad, then of the Anaheim Angels, bowled him over at home plate. Estrada suffered post concussion symptoms after that play, and was put of baseball by 2008.
It's not the first tine Estrada has had a run-in with the law. In 2013, he was arrested on a domestic violence charge.
