Christmas is a time for giving, however, it can be very easy to get carried away when it comes to buying both food and gifts for the big day, along with everything else. Data suggests that the UK alone creates up to 30% more waste during Christmas than the rest of the year!

We are all for encouraging a more sustainable approach to Christmas and wanted to share a few of the ways in which we can all can reduce the waste we create at Christmas…

  • Switch out your usual wrapping paper and opt for a recyclable alternative
  • Send any leftover food to a shelter for people less fortunate to enjoy
  • Try doing a secret Santa to cut down on the number of gifts you are buying
  • If you receive something you don’t really like, rather than throwing it away, try re-gifting it to some who might enjoy it more
  • Instead of physical gifts, why not buy someone an experience instead
  • According to a survey carried out by Travel Zoo, 57% of people in the UK will be making more of an effort to be sustainable this Christmas with around a third of people saying they would prefer to give and experience as opposed to a physical gift – after all what is better than giving the gift of memories?

Take a look at the infographic below to find out more about how the UK feel about Christmas waste and how they plan to reduce it.
