Tennessee's chances of signing four-star cornerback Eddie Smith are reportedly diminishing.
According to VolQuest (subscription needed), Smith was scheduled to host several Vol coaches on Tuesday, but canceled the visit following his official visit to Alabama last weekend.
The Louisiana native was offered a scholarship by the Tide following his official visit to Tennessee on Jan. 12. Many expected the Vols to land Smith prior to the offer, but Alabama has since emerged as a likely landing spot.
Last week, the senior told SEC Country that both schools' lack of depth at his position was enticing, as well as Mississippi State's constant rotation at cornerback.
"Tennessee is really weak at the cornerback spot right now, and, shoot, Alabama is, too," Smith told SEC Country last week. "Both schools are looking for guys to come in and play immediately. Mississippi State has cornerbacks already, but the thing with Mississippi State is that they rotate cornerbacks a lot. I have the opportunity to play right away at all three schools."
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect will have one week to decide on his college future with National Signing Day set for next Wednesday.
