Clemson Tigers forward Donte Grantham, the team's second leading scorer and rebounder, is having his career cut short. According to a release distributed by the school on Sunday, the senior will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in a win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday.
"I'm disappointed that Donte's career at Clemson had to end this way," coach Brad Brownell said in a statement. "He was putting together a terrific season statistically, but he really helps this team in so many ways."
Grantham suffered the injury in the second half of Saturday's game. Unfortunately, his right knee buckled as he was fouled from behind.
The upperclassmen was averaging 14.2 points and 7.1 boards this season.
Few teams in the country can afford to lose its second leading scorer and rebounder, so it will be interesting to see how Brownwell attempts to adjust his rotation on the fly.
This is a big blow for the overachieving Tigers. Currently sitting with an overall record of 16-3 on the season, the Tigers are 2-2 in their last four outings, with some stiff competition on the horizon.
Clemson next plays the No. 2 ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday. Not exactly an easy team to attempt any sort of adjustments against.
