Dayton freshman phenom collapses, dies at parents' home

Steve McElvene, apromising sophomore center for the University of Dayton basketball team,collapsed and died in his parent's home on Thursday . He was only 20. Can confirm Steve McElevene passed away this afternoon at his family's home after collapsing. Enlarged heart is believe to be the cause.

McElvene set a freshman record for blocks last season, with 55. The 6'11" center averaged 6.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 61 percent from the floor in his first season playing for Dayton and coach Archie Miller.

This sudden passing comes 20 years after Chris Daniels —- a fifth year senior center —-collapsed and suddenly died in February 1996. That story can be found here.
