After viewing this, I am completely sold on the Ivy League banning full-contact practices for football. I don't know if it would work for everyone, but this is certainly something.
Dartmouth has actually been doing this for a while; they banned full-contact practices back in 2010. What they have been using as a substitute, however, is this device, called the Mobile Virtual Player. Pretty much, it's just a remote control tackling dummy.
So simple that it is controlled with an iPhone app.
Some teams might already have these, but if they don't, they need them. Even with full-contact practices, these things work in tackling situations where it's better for a dummy to be tackled instead of a player. And the thing is pretty fast: it can keep up with a player running down the field.
I don't think you can't replace full-on tackle football. However, for practice, this looks like an extremely useful tool for the future.
