The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly bringing in recently-fired Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard.
I’m told that former Seahawks DC Kris Richard will be the Defensive Backs Coach & Passing Game Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. @710ESPNSeattle

While it appears Richard is taking a lesser role, it is worth noting Rod Marinelli won't be in the National Football League for much longer. If anything, especially given Richard's resume, it has the feeling of the Cowboys hiring Marinelli's replacement a year early, but just giving him a different job title for the time being.
Total conjecture, but it isn't often someone with Richard's resume isn't at least taking a later position, even if he was fired from his previous employer. Then again, given his short tenure as a defensive coordinator (2015-17), some more time grooming him isn't a bad move either.
In Seattle, Richard worked with the defensive backs before he took over as defensive coordinator once Dan Quinn he left for the Atlanta Falcons job. He was largely credited as playing a huge role in the Legion of Boom dilly that made the Seahawks nationally relevant.
Before starting with Seattle in 2010, Richard was a graduate assistant for the USC Trojans.
He also played in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.
