With Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers busy preparing for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs, State Farm needed a fill-in actor to portray the quarterback in its wildly successful Discount Double Check commercials. Thankfully for the insurance company, British comedian Tom Wrigglesworth looks eerily similar to No. 12.
In the commercial, Wrigglesworth plays Rodgers and fools everyone that encounters the "quarterback," playing to the whole premise of State Farm's slogan "it pays to double check." He autographs a football for same fans and signs it as "Aaron Wroggers," goes on a date and pretends to be Rodgers and gets a fan apprehended by police because the guy just wants his favorite player to notice him banging on the glass at the restaurant. It's a brilliant marketing campaign and I tip my cap to whomever came up with this idea.
