As expected, it didn't take long for Jerry Jones's comments earlier this week about a possible quarterback change to stir the pot.
Rookie Dak Precott delivered his worst performance of the season last Sunday against the Giants, and although Jones's remarks about the possibility of Romo replacing him were about as clear as mud ("You'll know it when you see it"), it was a given someone would interpret that to mean the quarterback controversy is back on.
That someone, for today at least, is former Dallas Cowboys great and Fox NFL broadcaster Troy Aikman.
"I'm just really dumbfounded by the comments," Aikman said Thursday in a radio interview with 1310 The Ticket. "And not only the first time, but why they continue. I don't understand why you would talk."
Aikman is of the opinion that Prescott winning 11 games in a row should entitle him to continued support from both the coaches and the front office, despite what happened Sunday. He sees starting Romo at this point as minimizing those accomplishments, and for little more reason than Jones wanting to see Romo win a Super Bowl in Dallas.
"If Tony ends up getting in the game at some point, great," Romo continued. "But to dismiss what a young rookie quarterback has done...what would be a great story would be if a rookie quarterback takes this team to a Super Bowl championship...I'm not sure if Tony, if it was left up to the owner, wouldn't be the starter now based on the comments that I've heard in the past couple weeks."
Aikman was making clear reference to Jones telling the New York Daily News last week that Romo might just get an opportunity and "...what a story, one for the ages, if he'd step in there and this year help us win a Super Bowl."

Right on cue, however, Jones got wind of Aikman's thoughts on the issue and did an about face, essentially acting like he never even said what he said.
"We completely support Dak as our starting quarterback, unequivocally," Jones told the Dallas Morning News. "That's that. There's no issue there at all."
