According to Dave Bartoo of CFB Matrix, Auburn's Gus Malzahn was the worst coach in the SEC last season and it wasn't even close. He was on The Paul Finebaum Show to talk about the extension Malzahn received despite the negative results on the field and he was not a fan.

"After three years, (Malzahn's) coach effect is sitting at minus two games a year, so in the simplest terms, the coaching versus the schedule and talent is pulling down the record on average. This includes his first year, which was really good."

That first season was a 12-2 year for the Tigers and saw them come within four points of winning a national title in 2013. Bartoo's metrics for measuring the "coach effect" are the talent a coach has on his team and whether that team wins an upset game or loses to an inferior opponent. Beating an inferior opponent doesn't net you any points and losing to a superior team doesn't lose you any points.

Bartoo then went on to say exactly how bad Malzahn was last year and how he led the SEC in this horrific stat.

"Last year he led the SEC, him and Steve Spurrier, were at minus four games in the SEC last year," Bartoo said. "So he was four games below talent, schedule expectations. Something needs to turn around really quick down there."

So basically, Auburn just rewarded its coach for being an underperformer and now we all know why Tigers fans are upset while the rest of the SEC is rejoicing.
