ESPN Radio was already in the midst of big changes. First, word broke that Mike And Mike would be going off the air in favor of Golic And Wingo and, even if that was moving to a more radio-friendly format, the shift was likely to be felt in a big way considering the longevity of its predecessor. In addition, Bomani Jones will be transitioning off the air in terms of a full-time radio show, leaving a hole where an entrenched show previously was housed.

On Wednesday, the network announced even more sweeping changes, as long-time host Ryen Russillo will be leaving to "pursue other opportunities when his contract expires next year."

As noted in the release, ESPN made sure to point out that Russillo was offered a contract to remain at ESPN and, in the meantime, he will be hosting a weekly podcast while remaining under contract. Still, this is big news in terms of the national radio scene.

Earlier in 2017, Russillo was suspended after being arrested while on vacation in Wyoming. Prior to his current place as the headliner of his own show (previously scheduled to be permanently co-hosted by Will Cain), Russillo was on the air with Scott Van Pelt and Danny Kanell in different iterations of the program. Speculation will be rampant as to where he might land and, in short, rumors are already flying.

ESPN's next move in the afternoon ready slot will be an interesting one but it won't include Ryen Russillo after Friday.
