Ole Miss junior LT Laremy Tunsil is one of the top players in college football and is projected as a Top 5 draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Tunsil is currently in some legal trouble after being arrested on charges of domestic violence after he allegedly punched his stepfather during an incident at his mother's home.
There are, unsurprisingly, conflicting stories from Laremy and his stepfather, Lindsey Miller.
"His stepfather shoved his mom and Laremy punched him," a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. "It's as simple as that. He was defending his mother."
Miller told The Clarion-Ledger that he denies pushing Tunsil's mom and that Laremy was the instigator and hit him six to seven times after an argument. Miller has filed a restraining order against Tunsil, while Tunsil and his mother plan on pressing charges against Miller. The official police report on the arrest won't be made available until Monday.
"We can confirm that Laremy Tunsil turned himself in and was arrested for a misdemeanor, domestic violence-simple assault," Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. "The incident occurred Thursday night and involves Laremy defending his mother against his stepfather.
"Laremy realizes he could have handled it differently, but I am proud of him for standing up for his mother and protecting his family. Laremy and his mother have also pressed charges against the stepfather. As we gather more facts, we will act and make decisions accordingly."
We'll see how this plays out, but it would be a huge loss for Ole Miss if Tunsil had to miss any time due to this arrest, who is already trying to recover from a broken leg suffered in the Rebels Peach Bowl loss.
