It appears Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick wasn't kidding when he said he would like to schedule Alabama and Auburn in the future.
According to AL.com, Auburn and Notre Dame are "still continuing to work" on trying to find an open date for the schools to play in the future.
"We were together a couple of weeks ago for an Under Armour event, Jack and I were," Jacobs said after playing in the Pro-Am of the Barbasol Championship at Grand National in Opelika on Wednesday. "We both would love to have Auburn and Notre Dame play. We first tried to do a home-and-home (or) a neutral site. We couldn't get it worked out because of scheduling issues, but trying to find an opening.
Auburn is booked up on non-conference dates for the next two seasons, and Notre Dame has a lot of schedule juggling to do between their ACC commitments (5 games per year) and their pre-existing rivalries.
Auburn and Notre Dame have never played against each other before in football.
With the increased focused on strength of schedule in recent years, the potential game would be good for both sides. It would also just be flat-out fun, considering that the two teams have never played.
