The Michigan Wolverines probably didn't need to utterly dominate on special teams in order to defeat Central Florida in Ann Arbor. Unfortunately for the visiting Knights, Jim Harbaugh's team showed exactly no mercy in that area of the game, blocking four (yes, four) kicks in the first half alone.
The first three blocked kicks all occurred in the first quarter and they come over a period of fewer than ten minutes.
First, Michigan's Karan Higdon blocked back-to-back punts in the first quarter, keeping both attempts from even crossing mid-field. Then, All-Big Ten defensive lineman Chris Wormley jumped into the action, utterly blowing up a field goal attempt as UCF attempted to put points on the board for the first time in the game.
Oh, and the Wolverines weren't done.
UCF did manage to score later in the first half, but this late field goal attempt barely reached the end zone as a result of a deflection. This is a highly unscientific statement, but you would be hard pressed to find an instance in which a team blocked four kicks in one half of football and, as you may expect, Michigan's special teams performance aided in what would become a dominant victory.
