It's Time to Believe the New Quarterback Hype at LSU

When former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow transferred out of the program, the doors opened for Dwayne Haskins to step up take the reigns for the Buckeyes. Now, Burrow's new home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana seems to be shaping into the same opportunity for the graduate transfer.

Burrow transferred to Louisiana State University following the program's spring game, but that didn't stop the former four-star prospect from getting noticed immediately. LSU coach Ed Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger are raving about Burrow's leadership and football mind, without even seeing him in LSU pads yet.

There are three other quarterbacks contending for the starting job; Lowell Narcisse, Myles Brennan and Justin McMillan all are in contention after spring practice.

The new LSU quarterback, Joe Burrow, is the signal caller that seems to be standing out ahead of fall camp.

At SEC Media Days at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Orgeron, once again, through praise at Burrow.

When asked about the recruitment of Burrow, Orgeron said, "And as we researched, Joe was exactly the type of quarterback that we felt that could come in and compete at LSU. So, those things were very important to us in the recruitment of Joe Burrow."

Ensminger will install a spread offense at LSU in his first season as the team's offensive coordinator. Burrow, who ran a similar style as an Ohio State quarterback, can immediately assimilate and contribute.

Orgeron, continuing about the addition of Burrow, said, "We had an advantage. Bill Busch was on the staff at Ohio State with Joe, and Bill gave us an advanced scouting report with Joe Burrow, and he was exactly right."

Ed Orgeron, entering his first full season as LSU head coach, explained the staff's first meeting with Burrow:

"But it wasn't until we met Joe. We went out to dinner the first night, and then the next day, we may have had three-and-a-half to four-hour meeting on football, and Joe was excellent in there."

"Steve was running the meeting, obviously, and going through some plays with Joe, some installations that we do, some things that he did at Ohio State. And he was excellent. And we felt that his knowledge of the game is able, his ability to run the offense, he can be a pro quarterback."

"He can run the football, extend plays if he has to, he's very tough. He's a leader."

LSU players attending SEC Media Days raved about their new graduate transfer quarterback.

Linebacker Devin White, who spoke on Burrow's leadership and work ethic, revealed a friendly wager between the new teammates:

A bet where you don't have to pay up if you LOSE?!? New #LSU QB Joe Burrow might be letting linebacker Devin White off the hook in this upcoming practice battle. #SECMD18 pic.twitter.com/jFcv8B3fv0

It's not officially anybody's job, yet. It would be a shock if the hype around Burrow doesn't lead to the newest LSU Tiger being the starting quarterback when LSU takes on Miami on September 2nd.
