Pitchers banging out home runs just isn't something you see on an "every day" basis. Seeing pitchers participate in the Home Run Derby is even rarer. Just don't tell any of this to Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta.
Arrieta may not have the home run total of other players (being a pitcher will do that to you) but that doesn't mean he can't slug 'em with the best of them.
Arrieta hit a solo shot home run off of a 99-mph pitch, giving him his second home run of the season. The ball traveled 381 feet. Arrieta has lobbied for a spot in the annual slugging competition and whomever is making that decision should look to add him to the list of competitors.
