The Nebraska athletic director job is very much open after Shawn Eichorst was fired after a loss to Northern Illinois earlier this season. A name that's been floated around as a replacement by Nebraska sports radio and some columnists has been Alabama's Greg Byrne. However, he's not having that as he shot down those rumors according to TideSports.com.
"I have a lot of respect for Nebraska," Byrne said when asked if he had been approached or would consider overtures from the Cornhuskers. "But Regina (Byrne) and I are thrilled to be at Alabama and are not considering other jobs."
Byrne has only been on the job at Alabama since March so to split after that short a time would say a lot about Byrne as well. It would mean he hates seeing football wins and really enjoys a challenge. Byrne has already hired a new baseball coach and has extended Nick Saban's contract to make him the highest-paid coach in the land.
