All the signs pointed to four-star quarterback Jack West (6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Saraland, AL) committing to Alabama. He's from the state, the school had figured to be his leader, and... well, it's Alabama.
To quote the great Lee Corso, not so fast, my friend! West told SEC Country on Tuesday evening that he was saying no to the Crimson Tide, and was instead committing to Stanford.
I am committed to and will attend Stanford University.

Shocked by the commitment? In some ways, you should be; Alabama often doesn't lose recruits to the Cardinal. Of course, as USA Today's Dan Wolken happily pointed out, Stanford does have one advantage.
Very few kids who can get into Stanford will turn down Stanford - even for Bama. https://t.co/Xdfez6DU0i

That's hard to argue with. Plus, it looks like he fits in.

West is the first commitment for Stanford's 2018 class. He is ranked the No. 6 pro-style quarterback according to 247Sports.
