He was named a finalist for the position, but now it is apparently all but a formality: former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr is expected to be named to the College Football Playoff committee, according to ESPN.
Carr was one of six to eight finalists for the job, potentially replacing members Mike Tranghese, Tom Osborne, and Mike Gould — whose terms expire in February 2016. Pat Haden's term also technically expires, but he stepped down from the committee before the season.
Carr was a coach at Michigan for 28 years, and the head coach for 13 seasons. He was 122-40 in his time at the school, winning a national title in 1997. He retired from coaching after 9-4 season in 2007, a season notorious for Michigan's loss to Appalachian State.
